Ishaani, C'24

  • Major Economics
  • Hometown Kolkata, India

Ishaani never expected to attend school in the United States, let alone at a university like Penn, but undergraduate financial aid has helped to make it a possibility and opened doors for her future. Ishaani knew that she wanted to study economics at Penn, but it wasn’t until she took a course in design that she realized she had this passion too. One class led to a minor. She developed new skills and was immediately able to use them in her consulting work and involvement with student groups on campus. Ishaani has also been able to put her economics coursework into practice through her research on the gig economy in India. Over breaks, she has been able to go back home to India and interview rideshare workers about the impact of COVID-19 on their careers and earnings. Ishaani plans to take these experiences with her into a career in social impact consulting after she graduates from Penn.

“The opportunities here are endless. You just have to look around, and you’ll find something for you.”
