Yasmina, EAS’20

  • Major Bioengineering
  • Hometown Beirut, Lebanon

Yasmina is originally from Lebanon, but also spent part of her childhood in France. At Penn, she is studying bioengineering, and recently traveled with faculty and students to Ghana. Yasmina is co-chair of Penn Wellness, and is involved in mental health and violence prevention initiatives on and off campus. She trains student staffers who work with Penn’s HELP Line, helps coordinate Penn’s annual Wellness Week activities, and regularly gives presentations on how to support students navigating Penn’s resources for health and wellness.

“Financial support has allowed me to work toward reaching my potential in ways I could never have imagined. There are opportunities that I have experienced only because I have the privilege of being at Penn.”

In the future, Yasmina plans to continue her focus on health-related issues, and is considering either medical school or a master’s degree in public health. No matter which path she chooses, she is thankful for the opportunities and support she has received at Penn. “The Named Scholarship Program is incredible,” she says. “It is amazing that people offer their generous support and are so dedicated to our educational experiences.”
